Lizard Soap Opera. The latest lizard singer is a deep baritone, which is unusual. He is physically huge, and rather handsome as lizards go.
He also improvises on the usual mating-call, and is very brief about it. He doesn’t do the whole song, which is identical in nearly all of them, and it’s a lengthy song too, usually.
I think he’s delivering a sound bite, with cool confidence and even a smug, haughty vanity. If he were human, he’s be in a velvet smoking jacket, with a Barry White tune in the background.
“Hey girls. Here I am. Need I say more?”
Evidently this is all he needs to do. There are quite a few young females coming and going these days. I don’t know who’s staying for more than a night, but one thing is for sure. I am seeing baby lizards far more than ever before.
To be continued.
