“I like this snake.” What?! It’s a first, that sentence, for me. It’s true, too. It’s the Malayan Bridle Snake. Why do I like this snake? Let me count the ways:
1. He has no teeth.
2. He has no venom.
3. He has no aggression, other than towards small things he eats.
4. I am too big for him to even think about eating.
5. If he senses humans, he curls into a tight coil and thinks he’s invisible, which is cute and touchingly ineffective.
6. If that doesn’t work, he exits as quickly as he can.
7. He is a harmless scaredy-snake.
I’m not really comparing him to a summer’s day, in this counting-of-the-ways, but in simple non-poetic language:
What’s not to like?
